My Grandfather Edwin E. Frederick's Crystal Radio Page

Both of these newspaper articles were written in May, 1915. the left one is described as "Fairfield County" and is presumed to be in Ohio. The second article was in a Chillicothe, OH newspaper.  Edwin's son, and my my father, James E. Frederick Sr. was 13 when these articles were written. 

This picture is typical of his hand-drawn diagrams. Each successive radio he built is slightly different from the preceding one. Notice that this set was able to receive a station in Key West, Florida from Pennsylvania. Not bad for a crystal set receiving a rotary alternator radio station before transmitting tubes were available. It was installed October 6, 1914 for Mr. W. E. Johnson of Cannonsburg, PA. and sold for $125.00.
